Britney Spears has filed legal documents asking for permission to change her will in order to protect her sons. The singer has to go to court to make any changes because her father continues to have conservatorship over her assets.
The will which was drafted before she gave birth to Sean,11, and Jayden,10 during her marriage to dancer Kevin Federline – currently states that the boys will inherit her entire estate if she dies.
According to TMZ, Britney is concerned that boys would get a lump sum, thought to be hundreds of millions of dollars, when they are 18 – which she believes would be a bad idea.
Instead it’s thought Britney wants to create a trust, which would mean they wouldn’t get the entire estate until they turn 35.
The website reports that they would receive some access when they are 18 and then some more when they are 25 and then again when they reach 35.
Britney’s dad Jamie and her attorney Andrew Wallet have had control of her assets and all her finances since her very public meltdown in 2007.
The star famously shaved her head, attacked a photographer with an umbrella and was put into psychiatric care.
According to the New York Times, Britney’s dad is paid $130k (£100k) a year to manage to money, which includes documenting every single purchase she makes in court papers.
Despite getting her life and career back on track in the years since then the mum-of-two still hasn’t regained control of her assets and according to reports she’s unlikely to any time soon.
